LSLFBW: Chapter 23

Qi Bai returned to the deep pit where the tribe members were gathered and was greeted by bloodstains and broken trees.

The bright red on Lang Ze’s body seemed to still be in front of him. Qi Bai kept shuttling among the crowd and finally found Lang Ze, who had turned into a human form.

Lang Ze was now dealing with the wild boars that hadn’t died on the ground with the others. These wild boars had lost their ability to move, but they couldn’t be taken lightly. There were too many children and sub-beastmen in the tribe. It would be troublesome if they weren’t careful and let them hurt the tribe members.

Qi Bai turned into human form and walked to Lang Ze’s side. For the first time, he felt that it was a good thing for beastmen to wear less. He surrounded Lang Ze, carefully checked from front to back, and almost wanted to touch him.

Lang Ze dodged quickly, the tip of his ears turning red. He asked awkwardly, “What are you doing?”

Qi Bai sighed with relief when he saw that Lang Ze didn’t look seriously injured. “I saw blood on your body from a distance and thought you were injured…”

Lang Ze said in a still slightly uncomfortable manner, “I’m fine. I’m just covered with wild boar blood. However, Xiong Feng seems to be seriously injured.”

Qi Bai remembered the time when Xiong Feng was hit. It really wasn’t light. Just as he wanted to find Xiong Feng to see the situation, he heard Yang Luo calling him.

Qi Bai quickly said goodbye to Lang Ze and went to Lang Ze, who happened to be taking care of the injured Xiong Feng.

Xiong Feng had turned back into human form. His forearm was twisted strangely, and his whole body seemed to be soaked in sweat. The situation looked very bad.

There were many injured beastmen beside Xiong Feng, but none were as seriously injured as Xiong Feng.

The moment Yang Luo saw Qi Bai, he asked Qi Bai to come over quickly and handed him some wild grass. “Hurry up and mash these herbs into a paste. Then apply it to his arm.”

After digging traps to hunt wild boars, Yang Luo had already made up his mind to accept Qi Bai as a student. Thus, he planned to teach Qi Bai his witchcraft little by little.

As Qi Bai took the herbs handed over by Yang Luo, Yang Luo simply explained the usage of each herb. Then he left Qi Bai, took a few sub-beastmen and went back to the forest.

Qi Bai noticed that there were more slaves among the people Yang Luo took away, which wasn’t like Yang Luo’s usual style.

Qi Bai didn’t know that Yang Luo had no choice. After all, there were too many injured beastmen. Not only were the horned beastmen in the hunting team injured today, but even the sub-beastmen who helped fight later were also injured.

Yang Luo went out to pick some herbs and hurriedly send them back to Xiong Feng, who was the most seriously injured. Now he had to go to pick herbs to treat the remaining people.

He no longer cared if they were slaves or not. He took away all those who knew herbs. He didn’t know whether they were suitable for the injured or not. As long as he could bring them back, he would pick them.

Qi Bai felt it wasn’t very hygienic to use these herbs without washing them. Fortunately, Xiong Feng’s bones didn’t pierce the skin, and there was no need to worry about infection.

Qi Bai crushed the herbs in his hands into a paste. He didn’t know what the effects of these herbs were. He just applied the paste carefully on Xiong Feng’s arm according to Yang Luo’s arrangement. Then he looked up and saw Xiong Feng shedding tears.

Qi Bai quickly stopped. “Did I hurt you?”

Xiong Feng shook his head. The strong man was on the verge of collapse. “My arm is broken. I can no longer participate in hunting. The tribe will definitely drive me out.”

Qi Bai quickly comforted him. “No, you were injured for the tribe. How could the tribe drive you out? Besides, your arm will be fine after you take good care of it. Don’t worry.”

Xiong Feng smiled miserably and closed his eyes as if he had accepted his fate.

Beside Xiong Feng, Hu Huo was equally saddened. Hu Huo’s eyes were full of painful memories. He also injured his leg during a hunt. After he was carried back to the tribe, the priest of their tribe didn’t even enter his tent. The priest had already determined that he was a beastman cursed by the Beast God. The priest only gave him some food and let him fend for himself. If it wasn’t for the help of that person, he might’ve died long ago.

Qi Bai looked at Hu Huo’s leg and carefully recalled Mao Bai’s memory. He found that even though the beastmen had learned to use herbs, they usually only used simple treatments such as stopping the bleeding. They were completely helpless for injuries such as fractures.

In addition, since the beastmen didn’t receive treatment, it was difficult for them to heal once their bones were broken. The priest in the tribe would marginalize or even expel these beastmen on the grounds that they were cursed by the Beast God.

Qi Bai didn’t believe in the curse of the Beast God. He reasonably suspected that the priests had just made up such a statement to prevent needing to feed the beastmen who couldn’t participate in the hunt.

Qi Bai looked at Xiong Feng’s deformed arm and made a bold decision.

He asked tentatively, “Xiong Feng, can I touch your wound?”

Xiong Feng nodded with his eyes still closed.

Qi Bai clenched and unclenched his fists, trying to relax his fingers as much as possible. Then he gently touched Xiong Feng’s wound.

Qi Bai wasn’t a doctor and had never broken a bone himself, but he still knew the most basic principles of fractures.

In his previous life, he was stuck in the hospital room all day. He liked to watch some strange videos when he had nothing to do. One of the accounts was dedicated to filming an old doctor who specialized in treating fractures. The old doctor was humorous and skillful. Qi Bai often watched it.

He had seen too many videos. He couldn’t say that he knew some simple techniques, but he could still follow the general principles.

Xiong Feng’s wound might look scary, but Qi Bai felt there was still a great possibility that it would heal.

First of all, he didn’t have an open wound which greatly reduced the risk of infection. Secondly, Qi Bai gently touched the fracture on the arm and felt that the fracture was very smooth, as if it had been broken directly. There weren’t many broken bones.

Qi Bai only dared to breathe lightly after he withdrew his hand.

He closed his eyes and tried to calm himself down. He silently calculated in his mind the possibility of helping Xiong Feng and the tools he might need.

Qi Bai’s eyes were full of determination when he opened his eyes again. “Xiong Feng, I can try to treat your arm but the process will be very painful. I can’t guarantee that it will be cured. Do you want to give it a try?”

Xiong Feng opened his eyes instantly after hearing this. His voice was heavy due to excitement. “I’m not afraid of pain. Sir Bao Bai, please save me. No matter what the result is, I will accept it. No matter what, it can’t be worse than it is now!”

Qi Bai nodded firmly. “You are right. Then I will prepare some things first.”

Qi Bai looked around for some vines and peeled off the skin of the vines to make fixed ropes.

Shu Lin took the initiative to come over and ask, “Bao Bai, are you going to make a straw rope?”

Qi Bai nodded. He had already noticed that Shu Lin had kept looking at them, obviously full of curiosity about what he was going to do. However, Shu Lin couldn’t come forward directly. Qi Bai handed the vine in his hand over and smiled. “Can you make a straw rope? I want a thinner one.”

There was no reason for Shu Lin to refuse. In any case, the priest hadn’t assigned him any work. He ran over without any psychological burden and took the vine from Qi Bai’s hand. He said with a bit of embarrassment, “The straw rope I wove isn’t very good-looking. Please don’t dislike it.”

Qi Bai smiled. “It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t look good, as long as it is strong enough.” Then he carefully described the purpose of the straw rope in detail.

Shu Lin actually regretted it a bit after listening. He glanced at Xiong Feng’s arm. He was afraid that he wouldn’t help but would make trouble. At this time, Hu Huo said from where he was sitting beside them, “Just do it. I will help watch.”

Qi Bai didn’t know how much trouble his words to Xiong Feng had caused in Hu Huo’s heart. Qi Bai’s hope for Xiong Feng was also a comfort to Hu Huo. If there was no bleeding wound on his arm at the moment, he would’ve really wanted to help weave the straw rope himself.

Shu Lin finally felt relieved with Hu Huo’s help. After all, Hu Huo’s skill in weaving straw ropes was the best in the tribe. He was full of confidence with Hu Huo’s help.

Thanks to the help of the two of them, Qi Bai could stand up and look for Hou Yan in the crowd. He briefly told Hou Yan about Xiong Feng’s condition. Hou Yan might be skeptical about Qi Bai’s words that he wanted to try and treat Xiong Feng, but he finally agreed to QI Bai’s request and lent Lang Ze to Qi Bai.

In order to fix Xiong Feng’s arm, Qi Bai needed to make a splint. Most importantly, he needed a strong beastman to help.

Qi Bai and Lang Ze returned to the temporary camp of the wounded and started to prepare. The forest that had just experienced a battle wasn’t short of broken wood. Lang Ze moved two stones and hit them heavily. He took out a sharp stone and made a stone axe. He quickly split several wooden boards with the stone axe.

Since these splints needed to come into direct contact with the skin, Qi Bai and Lang Ze each took a wooden board and started to polish it after Lang Ze split the wood.

After everything was ready, Qi Bai looked at Xiong Feng’s arm nervously.

Xiong Feng no longer had the decadent look of a tough guy crying. It wasn’t known if he was in too much pain, but even the sweat on his head was much less. It could be said that when treating a patient, the patient’s mentality was very important. Xiong Feng’s cooperation made the nervous Qi Bai feel much more at ease.

Qi Bai thought about Xiong Feng’s arm for a long time before pulling Lang Ze aside to discuss it. After listening to Qi Bai’s description, Lang Ze nodded and said, “I know. I will hold him back when the time comes.”

Qi Bai choked up. He was worried that his strength wasn’t enough and he couldn’t pull it in place at once. Lang Ze confidently said that he would hold the person back.

Okay. In any case, they were all brave enough. One dared to teach, another dared to learn, and most importantly, one dared to be a guinea pig.

Qi Bai didn’t discuss it in front of Xiong Feng. This matter required surprise, speed, accuracy, and ruthlessness, so that the injured could suffer less.

At this time, Lang Ze was holding Xiong Feng’s palm with one hand and pressing down on Xiong Feng’s arm with the other hand. In addition, Shu Lin stood behind Xiong Feng and used all his strength to hold Xiong Feng down to prevent him from moving.

Xiong Feng felt uncomfortable all over. He strongly expressed that he wasn’t afraid of pain and would never move, but the barefoot doctor Qi Bai didn’t care about his words.

Qi Bai stood on the side, ready for battle. He signaled to Lang Ze, but Lang Ze didn’t give Xiong Feng time to react. He pulled Xiong Feng’s broken bone outwards with ease.

“Ah!”

It was at this time that Yang Luo came back with the herbs. He had just taken a few steps when he heard Xiong Feng’s scream. Yang Luo was so scared that the herbs in his hand fell to the ground. He jumped before running to the wounded.

Xiong Feng must be dying…
