The soft touch on his lips made Lang Ze’s body stiffen for a moment.
Then the hand gripping Qi Bai’s waist suddenly tightened, followed by Lang Ze’s rapid breathing.
Qi Bai closed his eyes, feeling Lang Ze’s wandering movements over his lips.
“Um…”
The somewhat impatient Qi Bai wrapped his arms around Lang Ze’s neck and gently parted his lips.
Lang Ze’s grip tightened as if trying to meld Qi Bai into his body.
Just as Qi Bai thought he was going to suffocate from lack of oxygen, the neck that Qi Bai was holding suddenly changed. In the blink of an eye, Qi Bai was enveloped in a patch of fur.
The large wolf flicked his tail, seemingly enjoying the closeness with Qi Bai. He carefully tucked the sub-beastman into his soft belly, his large, hot tongue gently licking Qi Bai’s cheek.
Qi Bai’s chest heaved as he gasped for breath.
He looked up at the sky, taking a long time to realize what had happened. He felt both embarrassed and amused.
Yet looking at the clearly drunken large wolf beside him, Qi Bai decided to stop thinking about anything. He turned his head and buried himself in the soft fur like an ostrich.
Then he secretly smiled in the embrace where no one could see.
As dawn broke, QI Bai’s eyelashes fluttered a few times before he slowly opened his eyes.
Qi Bai struggled to sit up, staring blankly at the snow-covered earth for a moment before rubbing his head in annoyance. He simply couldn’t believe that he and Lang Ze had slept here all night.
The large wolf beside him had his chest rising and falling slightly, looking like he was sleeping soundly.
Qi Bai and Lang Ze had spent many nights together in the wild, but he rarely saw Lang Ze sleeping so soundly and defenselessly.
Qi Bai reached out and tugged at the big wolf’s fur. “You still need to work on your drinking capacity.”
The giant wolf woke up and felt the warm sunlight on his body. He stood up and vigorously shook off the snowflakes. Then he saw a figure busy in the flower field.
Qi Bai saw Lang Ze approaching and his cheeks started to burn one-sidedly. He lowered his head and quickly said, “There are only a bit left. We can finish picking it soon.”
Lang Ze listened to Qi Bai and followed his instructions. He walked to the edge of the flower field to pick the wind spirit flowers.
The two of them stood silently on opposite sides of the flower field. Qi Bai picked flowers while secretly glancing at Lang Ze several times. Then he scratched his head somewhat blankly.
Lang Ze’s expression was no different from usual, but it was precisely this normal behavior that made Qi Bai feel strange.
It was almost noon by the time Qi Bai and Lang Ze returned to the tribe, but the tribe was still bustling with activity.
Lang Ze carried a large basin of cooked offal from Qi Bai’s cave. This was the food Qi Bai would take to the market to sell that day.
Before leaving the cave, Qi Bai hesitated for a moment. Then he picked out a small bunch of blooming wind spirit flowers from the flowers bound with vines.
“Where have you been? We’ve been waiting here all morning,” Shu Lin asked after seeing Qi Bai and Lang Ze coming down the mountain with the ingredients. He quickly had Xiong Feng start a fire under the earthenware pot and stepped forward to greet them. “Wow, Bao Bai, where did you find these flowers? They’re so beautiful.”
Many wildflowers around the tribe had wilted after the snowfall and Shu Lin wasn’t good at gathering them. He didn’t have any outstanding tokens for this year’s mating day, so seeing so many flowers in Qi Bai’s hands naturally filled him with envy.
Qi Bai smiled and divided the wind spirit flowers in his hand in two, giving one half to Shu Lin. “Lang Ze led me to find these. These flowers grow far from the tribe. We were late because we were collecting them.”
Shu Lin looked at Qi Bai with surprise. “Are these for me?”
Qi Bai nodded. “Yes, we picked a lot.”
Shu Lin took the flower and excitedly ran to Xiong Feng, who was starting a fire. He stuffed all the flowers into Xiong Feng’s arms.
Xiong Feng didn’t care what the token was. He liked anything that Shu Lin gave him.
Little Xiong Shan watched his parents playing, stood up and stretched his little paws to grab them. Xiong Feng, who usually doted on his child, carefully put away the flowers that Shu Lin offered. “I can’t give you these. My partner gave them to me. If you want them, you have to wait until you grow up and your partner will give them to you.”
Xiong Shan whimpered twice before plopping down on the ground, instantly transforming into the appearance of a one year old child. The chubby little boy clenched his fists pitifully, looking extremely aggrieved.
Shu Lin and Xiong Feng were dumbfounded as they watched their child suddenly transform from a small brown bear into a little kid wearing a small piece of animal skin.
Weren’t children supposed to turn into human form after a year?
Their Xiong Shan was still four months away from turning one year old. How could he suddenly become human? Had they spoiled their child?
Diao Lan quickly ran over, picked Xiong Shan off and tore off a piece of animal skin to wrap around the little boy completely.
Diao Lan smiled and handed the child to Xiong Feng, comforting him, “The fact that the child turned into human form early means your child is very strong. He will definitely become an outstanding horned beastman in the future.”
Xiong Feng and Shu Lin’s initial shock turned into delight. Looking at Xiong Shan’s still outstretched little hand, Shu Lin generously plucked two flowers from Xiong Feng’s hand, stuffing them into the chubby little hand. “Here, play with them, play with them.”
The fact that Xiong Shan had turned into human form early didn’t just make his parents happy.
Yang Luo and Hou Yan rushed over after hearing the news.
Yang Luo teased little Xiong Shan while laughing heartily. He asked Shu Lin and Xiong Feng, “Is there anything special about how you take care of Xiong Shan?”
Shu Lin and Xiong Feng pondered on it for a long time. “It is nothing special.”
Lang Ze thought for a moment before suggesting, “Could it be due to the sheep’s milk?”
If there was anything different about the children in the tribe compared to other children, it would be their food.
Wild beasts died quickly after reaching the territory of beastmen, so unless the child’s father was exceptionally strong and could find many recently born beasts during winter, the children usually only got to drink animal milk for three or four days at most.
Meanwhile, the children of the Black Mountain Tribe were different.
The tribe raised four-eared sheep and the four children born this year had been drinking sheep’s milk for nearly half a year in addition to the meat.
Qi Bai’s eyes lit up. Indeed, sheep’s milk was rich in nutrients and children that drank milk regularly would definitely have a more balanced diet than the beastmen who preferred meat. Lang Ze’s statement actually had some scientific basis.
Yang Luo immediately approved, saying to Lang Ze and Hou Yan, “That makes sense. After the mating day, take your hunting teams to find other flocks of sheep. We need to raise many more pregnant ewes.”
Xiong Shan’s early transformation into human form was just a small accident on the mating day, but it made everyone’s enthusiasm for mating even higher.
After all, compared to others, who wouldn’t want a strong child of their own?
In the open space in front of the cave, eight or nine small fires surrounded a large central bonfire.
Several pieces of prey were slowly roasting over the fire, and all the tribe members had gathered around it.
Qi Bai had also moved his braised food stall there. Next to it were several jars of fruit wine, which he had prepared for the mating day.
However, the fruit wine was limited and everyone only received a small half-cup.
The young children had it even worse. Qi Bai forbade them from drinking alcohol, so they could only take small sips of the sweet fruit wine with bamboo skewers.
The flames crackled and popped until the moon hung high in the sky. At this point, Yang Luo arrived dressed in his finest attire.
His face was painted with colorful patterns, his body adorned with vibrant flowers and stones. He shook a bone bell as he sang joyful tunes around the largest bonfire.
“Yo, yoyo!”
Everyone joined in Yang Luo’s song, shamelessly displaying various dances. Many of them had already paired up, expressing their love for each other through song and dance.
To Qi Bai’s surprise, Lang Pu had crafted a simple instrument from bones. After Yang Luo finished singing the sacrificial song, Lang Pu played the instrument and provided accompaniment for all the tribe members.
Perhaps it was the atmosphere, but Qi Bai found himself subconsciously immersed in a comfortable, pleasant atmosphere despite only drinking a small amount of wine that evening.
However, beside him, Lang Ze was surrounded by a group of people in the blink of an eye.
Perhaps it was the small cup of fruit wine Qi Bai gave out that had an effect, but these sub-beastmen finally raised the courage to place the tokens they had prepared for so long into Lang Ze’s hands.
Qi Bai finally realized this was the first time in nearly two days that Lang Ze had received tokens from sub-beastmen.
Lang Ze accepted the gifts expressionlessly, showing no intention of responding.
The sub-beastmen opposite him seemed relieved by this. They admired strong horned beastmen like Lang Ze, but were equally hesitant about becoming his mate.
Giving their tokens to Lang Ze on mating day felt like completing a task.
Hu Xue laughed. “Lang Ze is usually so fierce. It is no wonder the sub-beastmen in the tribe are afraid to speak to him or give him tokens.”
Hu Xue was talking to Qi Bai but didn’t notice that small flames were slowly rising in Qi Bai’s eyes as he looked at Lang Ze.
Qi Bai tightened his grip on the Wind Spirit Flowers he brought down the mountain that day, which he hadn’t found a chance to use yet. Once Lang Ze turned around, Qi Bai seriously tugged at his animal skin coat.
Lang Ze leaned down slightly before freezing in place.
The sub-beastman before him was meticulously breaking the stem of the wind spirit flower to the right length, pinning each one to his head.
Qi Bai finished breaking all the flowers in his hand in one go. Before Lang Ze could react, he forcefully dragged Lang Ze back to the cave
Qi Bai pressed Lang Ze against the stone wall. “We… we already… how could you still accept tokens from others? Are you planning to renege on your promise?”
Once beastmen had chosen a partner, they wouldn’t accept any more tokens from anyone else. QI Bai had secretly rejected several people today. How could Lang Ze not have any awareness of this?
Lang Ze’s Adam’s apple moved as his voice became tense. “What happened last night? I don’t understand.”
Qi Bai gritted his teeth, stood on tiptoe and hugged Lang Ze hard. “We already kissed last night. Don’t tell me you don’t remember!”
Lang Ze felt his heart skip a beat. He thought that everything last night was a dream he had because he wanted Qi Bai so much. It turned out to be real.
Qi Bai’s eyes widened slightly. His feet suddenly left the ground and in the blink of an eye, he and Lang Ze switched places. His back ended up against the stone wall.
The next second, Lang Ze kissed him.
It was from a somewhat repressed frenzy, to animal-like licking and then to a lingering deep kiss.
Qi Bai felt like he was on fire and most of his strength was being burned away. He could only barely support himself by relying on Lang Ze.
It was only when he noticed Lang Ze’s downward movements that Qi Bai’s rationality returned. He pushed Lang Ze away. “No… no.”
Lang Ze’s voice was hoarse. “Why not?”
Qi Bai looked at Lang Ze’s burning gaze, which seemed to want to melt him, and his voice trembled slightly. “I… I’m not ready yet.”
Qi Bai hadn’t forgotten that he was now a sub-beastman, capable of getting pregnant. This wasn’t a joke.
Lang Ze gazed into Qi Bai’s eyes and suppressed all impulses.
The last bit of uncertainty in his heart vanished, replaced by an indescribable joy. He held Qi Bai tightly in his arms as if protecting the most precious treasure in the world.
