PFRG: Chapter 86

Ark Laboratory (18)

“Do you know what you are saying?” Cang Si was obviously very puzzled by Yue Ren’s attitude. However, the next second, the words at his lips turned into a heart-wrenching scream due to the intense pain. “Ahhhhh—!”

Several dark shadows pierced through his chest, and screams instantly sounded through the entire monitoring room.

The pain that came without warning made Cang Si’s whole body twitch. It took dozens of seconds for the pain to gradually subside. Blood oozed out as his chest heaved violently.

“You can’t… how can you, ahhhh—!

Before Cang Si could catch his breath and speak, dark shadows gathered from all directions and pierced his body again.

It wasn’t until the screams were reduced to low sobs and violent gasps that the arrogance in his eyes finally disappeared completely. Looking at this figure that vaguely caught his eye, only instinctive fear remained.

“It seems that you have never been treated like this before, Mr Instance Designer.” There was a bit of joy in Yue Ren’s tone. As he approached, the black shadows around him gradually fell and slowly lowered Cang Si, who was hanging in the air, in front of him.

Yue Ren lowered his eyes and glanced at the bloodless face without mercy. He seemed a bit surprised as he said, “Ah, it seems that your immortal body is real. You aren’t dead yet. I have to admit that this is a very good ability.”

Before he finished speaking, a hint of laughter appeared in his voice. “But even if you can’t die, you at least still feel pain, right? Have you ever thought that the players struggling to survive in your instance, or even the hostile NPCs you mentioned, might be experiencing pain ten thousand times greater than what you are experiencing?”

Cang Si obviously couldn’t understand this man’s disgust for the instance designer. His pupils shrank slightly due to extreme fear. He looked at the black rose petals swaying on Yue Ren’s face like he saw a demon crawling out of hell. “Y-You shouldn’t do this to me. Ahem… helping me can make you gain greater benefits. You will leave this instance sooner or later. IT won’t benefit anyone to offend me.”

“Yes, that makes sense.” Yue Ren nodded thoughtfully. Just as Cang Si was about to sigh with relief, he suddenly changed the subject without warning. “But now that I’ve already offended you, it shouldn’t make a difference if I offend you a bit more.”

Cang Si’s breathing tensed as he sensed something. This was followed by a tearing pain all over his body, making him feel that there was only darkness in front of his eyes.

“Ahhhhhh—!”

“Ahhhhhhhhhhh—!!!”

Not far away, two figures stood side by side.

There wasn’t much reaction to the tragic scene before their eyes.

With such a heart-wrenching background sound, Jael said in a complicated tone, “I had noticed that something was wrong with him before, but I never thought he would be… the designer of the instance. It turned out to be this person’s masterpiece why the Ark Laboratory turned into an instance.”

He obviously didn’t need a reply. After a pause, he turned to look at the person next to him. “So what you said is true. The path that Wenguang insisted on is also wrong after all. But perhaps it was due to my persistence regarding this path that humanity irretrievably ushered in its demise after 40 years, right?”

Chi Ting thought that the collapse of faith would drive Jael crazy. He never expected that he hadn’t completely collapsed, well, at least on the surface.

In response to such a straightforward question, he answered very frankly, “Professor, as I said just now, this was just my guess.”

“But you have your own reasons.” Jael looked at Cang Si’s miserable appearance. From Chi Ting’s perspective, he felt that there was only a deep darkness in the skeleton’s eye sockets. Soon, there was a self-deprecating sigh. “So the second half of my life is just a joke, like the first half.”

Chi Ting shook his head. “No. At the very least, the Ark Laboratory you built did bring hope to lost humans.”

Jael hadn’t expected Chi Ting to comfort him. He was about to turn around in surprise when he saw a figure flash in front of him. Yue Ren, whose sadistic desire was satisfied, finally came back. He greeted them in a normal way as soon as he opened his mouth, “What are you talking about? You look so happy?”

The shadow patterns on his face had blossomed into a bush of black roses.

Faintly, the swaying petals seemed to leave a clear afterimage in his pupils due to excessive alienation.

Jael: “……”

He didn’t know how this person felt they were enjoying the conversation, but he still couldn’t help admiring such a scene.

It was hard to imagine what type of willpower these two people in front of him had that they could withstand such intense alienation and erosion without any external support while still retaining their sanity.

Chi Ting also glanced at Chi Ting. “Are you feeling better?”

“It’s okay.” The madness still floating in Yue Ren’s eyes formed a sharp contrast with his gentle tone when talking to Chi Ting. He glanced coldly at the half-dead Cang Si before suddenly changing his tone to a distressed one. “I think I have completely offended this guy who claims to be an instance designer. If we really let him go, it will be difficult to deal with him if he comes to trouble us later.”

Chi Ting smiled at this green tea performance. “You just remembered this now?”

Yue Ren shrugged. “Life is meant to be enjoyed. Just enjoy it first and then think about it.”

He could actually say a scumbag’s famous quote so calmly. Chi Ting felt he had a new understanding of this man’s shamelessness.

However, he would let Yue Ren do whatever he wanted. This meant he had undoubtedly already thought of the follow-up measures. He asked calmly, “Since you’ve had your fun, it is my turn to ask some questions. How about it? Do you have anything to ask together?”

“It’s okay. You can ask.” Yue Ren naturally knew that Chi Ting was referring to the Love Apartment instance, but the designer of this instance didn’t recognize him. It was obvious he wasn’t the No 7 designer Yue Ren was looking for. Regarding what happened in the past, he would rather find the instigator and confront him face to face.

To be honest, the feeling of tearing into the instance designer was pretty good. He hoped that the next time he met No 7, he could let the designer enjoy it like this.

Chi Ting glanced at Yue Ren’s expression and could guess that this person must be thinking about something very perverted in his mind.

He sighed silently in his heart. Then he took a step forward and walked in front of Cang Si.

In a short period of time, Cang Si’s body had been tortured beyond recognition. But due to the immortality effect of his personal ability, he still maintained his sanity.

Obviously, sometimes not being able to die was what made people more desperate.

He had clearly suffered a psychological trauma. He slowly raised his head after hearing footsteps. Then when Cang Si saw the figure standing behind Chi Ting, he instinctively shuddered.

Look at what this person had done.

Chi Ting looked at Cang Si with pity and asked, “Since you are the designer of this instance, can you change the name?”

“Four.” Cang Si’s voice was hoarse. “I am Designer No 4.”

Chi Ting nodded before wondering calmly, “How many designers like you are there now?”

“Right now, there are only six designers left for numbers one to nine… ahem.” Cang Si obviously didn’t understand why Chi Ting was asking him for information that could be found on the outside forum. With severe pain all over his body, he remained alert and rational. “Give up. Don’t expect to find out the secrets of this world from me. Apart from torturing me, there is nothing you can do to me. We will all leave here as long as one of you passes the instance.”

“Who said we are ready to clear the instance?” Such an attitude made Yue Ren sneer in dissatisfaction. He saw the other person obviously flinch when he spoke, and more sarcasm appeared in his eyes. “What if we are going to give up the choice of clearing the instance to be trapped in here with you ? No matter how you look at it, torturing you every day can be considered a very enjoyable thing, right?”

The act of hurting the enemy as well as oneself made Cang Si wonder if this man was crazy.

But when he thought back to what just happened, he realized that Yue Ren was indeed a lunatic. His face became even paler. “What about the others? They won’t allow you to do this, and you can’t leave them alone.”

Yue Ren sneered and raised an eyebrow slightly. “Is it my business whether they live or die?”

Chi Ting was speechless when he saw that this man was teasing others again.

He touched the red stone on his chest, took out something from the storage space, and placed it in front of Cang Si. “Mr Designer No 4, have you ever thought that maybe we really aren’t helpless against you?”

Cang Si’s gaze fell on the mini shield in Chi Ting’s hand. He realized the function of this item and finally lost even the last traces of color on his face.

[Hero’s Guardian: After using it, a protective barrier can be deployed to seal all special abilities except those belonging to the hero. Note: the protective barrier lasts for 30 minutes and will enter a cooldown period of seven days after use.]

“If I’m not mistaken, even an instance designer should have rules that must be followed in this unlimited world. Otherwise, there would be no need to infiltrate the instance as a player to correct it after discovering a problem inside the instance. There would be no need to persuade us to help you again and again. This is entirely because in terms of safety or combat effectiveness, you gave all your choices to safety. As you told us before, you are really weak now.”

Chi Ting always paid attention to Cang Si’s change in expression. When he saw that Cang Si intended to refute it, he smiled and continued, “So I think that once you enter this instance, the personal authority of the instance designer must not be much greater than that of players. This is why you are so worried about accidents. In this way, if there are no accidents, your immortal body should be within the scope of the seal of this item, right? Of course, you can also deny it. I haven’t used this item yet. It is a good choice to take this opportunity to try it out.”

Obviously, every word was very gentle, but when it fell into Cang Si’s ears, it felt like a devilish sound that chilled him to the bone.

Finally, Cang Si was forced to acquiesce and ask, “What do you want?”

“Very good. It seems you have realized that we aren’t completely helpless against you.” Chi Ting seemed very satisfied with Cang Si’s compromising attitude, and his expression was still full of patience. “If you don’t want to die here, let’s renegotiate a deal. Mr Designer No 4, tell me what happened in my world, and I can promise that I won’t kill you. I personally think this is fair. What do you think?”

Yue Ren couldn’t help glancing at Chi Ting when he saw Chi Ting make a promise not to kill without any discussion. But in the end, he didn’t say anything.

Cang Si fell into a painful dilemma.

Since the NPC Jael awakened, the situation inside the instance was in chaos. In order to ensure that the instance could resume normal operations, he had to choose to solve this troublesome BUG himself. Before entering the instance, he thought he had made full preparations. Even if he couldn’t solve the problem, he could at least leave smoothly. However, he never expected to meet other people from the same world in the instance. More unexpectedly, this player had such a tricky item.

He might be the designer of the instance, but he would still be severely punished for leaking the secrets of this unlimited world. However, the experience just now was enough to make him realize that if he refused, he would face an even more brutal massacre.

Caught between a rock and a hard place, Cang Si endured the pain all over his body and thought for a long time before raising his hand again.

Since he wasn’t sure, he could only ask tentatively, “I really don’t know much about your world, but I know someone who can give you the answer you want. If I tell you who this person is, can you guarantee that you won’t kill me?”

Chi Ting lowered his eyes and examined this person, judging the truth of his words based on his intuition.

He weighed the pros and cons before nodding. “As long as what you say is true, I can agree to it.”

Cang Si was always waiting for the final result. It was only when this reply fell into his ears that he finally sighed with relief.

He was hanging exhausted in the air due to the shadows. His voice suddenly became much lower, as if he was afraid of being heard by others.

Jael, who was standing further away, couldn’t hear it. However, the two people who were nearby heard it clearly.

They were both stunned when they heard these words. They turned their heads back subconsciously and saw the deep emotions in each other’s eyes.

The last thing Cang Si said was, “I do have a lot of instances under my command, but in this instance, I only play the role of a rule builder. The person who gave me this Ark Laboratory was No 7. It was he who brought your world into this unlimited game. If you want to find out what happened, you will know everything as long as you find No 7.”

Once again, Designer No 7.

Dun dun dunnnnnnnnnn
Is forgotten that the necklace was a storage space. Seems like this instance will be wrapping up shortly? Idk why but I always prefer the inter-instance sections to the actual instances – probably because the characters find out more about the over arching mystery.
Thanks for the chapter and stay safe!
