PFRG: Chapter 112

Strange Stories Arcade (21)

Compared to the blue team’s surveillance area, Chi Ting obviously couldn’t see what happened to the blue team’s go-kart that was left behind in Yue Ren’s perspective. But even without this, he could probably guess what Yue Ren would do.

All he could say was that the member of the Jazz team just had to pick on Yue Ren when he could pick on anyone else. If it was Chi Ting on the field, he could’ve been a bit soft-hearted and pretended that nothing happened. However, with Yue Ren’s meticulous personality, he would probably choose the most murderous and heartbreaking method.

Chi Ting lowered his eyes slightly with a hint of confusion in his expression.

The moment the whistling chain came into view, his breathing instantly stopped, and his first reaction was the strong desire to kill the humans from the Jazz team.

His gaze silently passed over his clenched fists, which finally loosened slowly as he watched the red go-kart moving steadily over the abyss.

Emotional stability had always been something that Chi Ting was proud of. After all, for a person with special abilities, it was indeed not a good thing once signs of instability started to appear.

He, who was also keen on adventure, showed some emotional fluctuations after witnessing the two adventures chosen by Yue Ren during the S-shaped curve and unilateral bridge. This undoubtedly made him seem a bit pessimistic.

He obviously needed to do some emotional management, which he hadn’t done for ages.

“I’ll go and prepare.” Chi Ting paused for a moment. Then he turned around and left the surveillance area.

“Hey, so early?” Ji Xingque withdrew his attention upon hearing this. Then after he looked back, he could only see the figure disappearing around the corner.

“It isn’t early.” Song Xuefeng looked at the surveillance camera calmly without any ripples. If it wasn’t for him suddenly speaking, people would’ve doubted that he could fall asleep at any time. “The first lap is almost over.”

Ji Xingque took a look at the progress bar and raised his eyebrow slightly. “It is true.”

In the red team’s surveillance footage, what caught the eye was the image of the red go-kart speeding along.

Every time it passed a unilateral bridge, the tires on the corresponding side were pressed on it very stably under Yue Ren’s control.

In the picture, from a distance, the red go-kart seemed to be suspended in the air above an abyss. It was only when the camera zoomed in that it could be seen that under the seemingly suspended tires on the other side of the unilateral bridge, there were clearly dense, tough and stable pink threads.

It was impossible to tell what specific material these threads were made of, but they firmly supported the car body as it drove steadily, completing an entire section of the road without any danger.

This go-kart test had never been about driving skills but about facing the deepest choices in their hearts.

Like Miao Zhou of the Jazz team, they were doomed to lose the moment they chose to retreat halfway.

After passing the last unilateral bridge, the seemingly dangerous track returned to normal. The lights that were continuously cast down were bizarre and made everything that just happened seem even more like a dream.

Under the helmet, a smile slowly emerged on Yue Ren’s face.

It was just as Chi Ting said. He won the best. But the place where the bet was placed was never against the rules, but Designer No 7 of this instance who liked to play with people’s hearts.

Compared to not being able to pass a level due to insufficient strength, what was more painful was the result of dying due to their own cowardice, right?

After all, it was only the remorse and heartache that made this game more fun.

No matter whether it was the daunting abyss or the fact that the death rule wasn’t triggered as long as they didn’t get out of the car, these familiar touches were full of the designer’s disgusting, bad taste.

Back on the track, Yue Ren continued to look into the distance while waiting for the next possible checkpoint.

As for Miao Zhou, whom he had just casually dealt with, he never gave this person a glance from beginning to end.

It was true that he deliberately slowed down to let the other person drive ahead. It was also true that he deliberately let the other person lock the car body even though he could’ve cut the chain at any time.

The former was to deliberately force the other person to stop in order to test the safety of the assumption of stopping the car without getting off. The latter was just a courtesy since the other person took the initiative to kill him.

It was more interesting to wait until people realized that they still had a chance of survival and then completely destroy that chance of survival than to solve the problem directly on the spot.

It was difficult for stupid people to survive in this unlimited world. There was even less need for such self-righteous evil people to continue to survive.

After all, the result of letting go was likely to harm more people.

Yue Ren looked nonchalant as he continued to move forward, but his eyes were always calm.

However, in the end, the next level didn’t come into his view. Instead, at the end of his vision, a mark prompting the ‘end’ gradually appeared.

A hint of surprise flashed across Yue Ren’s face. He obviously hadn’t expected to finish a lap like this without noticing. However, what followed wasn’t the relief of completing the task. Instead, the extremely relaxed expression on his face sank for the first time.

The lap obviously ended much faster than he had imagined.

But speed wasn’t always a good thing sometimes.

The moment he crossed the finish line, the time it took for the red team to complete the first lap appeared on the notification board.

The moment Yue Ren got off the car, he lifted the cover of his helmet and immediately strode towards the figure he saw when he entered the finish line. “Have you noticed? I’m afraid…”

“It’s okay, I’ve noticed it.’ Before he could speak, Chi Ting finished the sentence and directly lowered the helmet cover. Then he sat neatly in the driver’s seat of the go-kart.

Yue Ren paused in his movement. He glanced at the face that was blocked by the mask, and took the opportunity when Chi Ting was fastening his seat belt to move closer.

He wasn’t sure, but he still followed his intuition and smelled a subtle scent. “I just got someone from the Jazz team. Are you unhappy?”

“No.” Chi Ting fastened his seat belt and looked up. Through the helmet, one seemed to be able to feel the slight smile on his face when he spoke. There was indeed no problem with his natural answer. “It is my own fault. I don’t think there is any problem.”

Yue Ren was slightly choked up by this sentence with no discernible tone. “That…”

The following words were interrupted again.

“I can only delay for 10 seconds. According to the rules, I have to go now.” Leaving such a sentence behind, Chi Ting stepped on the accelerator. Almost without any hesitation, he left straight away.

Yue Ren stood there for a long time, his eyes fixed on the direction where the figure had disappeared. He pondered on it for a long time, touching his chin with a puzzled look. Then he turned around and walked quickly towards the surveillance area.

According to the rules, the handover time between two players was only 10 seconds, but his intuition told him that Chi Ting was indeed exuding the word ‘unhappiness’ from head to toe.

From the time they met until now, this was the first time Yue Ren smelled such a dangerous aura from Chi Ting, who was usually a ‘go with the flow’ type of person.

As he walked, Yue Ren felt more and more uneasy. He arrived at the surveillance area and found the other two members of the Dawn team still standing in front of the big screen. They turned around and looked over when they heard the sound.

Before they could speak, Yue Ren asked directly, “Why is your captain angry?”

Ji Xingque was stunned by the question. “Huh? Is he?”

Yue Ren confirmed it again. “He isn’t?”

“No?” Ji Xingque scratched his head uncertainly. “The captain just said that he isn’t angry.

Yue Ren: “………”

Okay, the case was solved. He didn’t know the reason, but he must’ve done something to make Chi Ting unhappy, right?

What was it? No matter how he thought about it, could it be because he killed that person from the Jazz team?

Yue Ren quickly reviewed the entire driving process in detail. He felt there was no other possibility apart from this.

He stood there and sincerely thought if he should eat vegetarian food, chant some Buddhist scriptures or some similar things to get rid of his killing intent when he heard Ji Xingque exclaim in surprise, “This isn’t right. Is this a change of route? Why is the project different?”

Yue Ren seemed very relaxed when he was on the field before. Now that he arrived at this absolutely safe surveillance area, he looked up when he heard these words. His brow furrowed, and his whole body subconsciously tensed up.

It was indeed not a good thing that the first lap ended too early. The thing he was most worried about finally happened. If each lap used a different route, then the previous test run would undoubtedly be meaningless.

Seeing that it was finally Chi Ting’s turn to play, many viewers jumped back from the Jazz team’s live stream room, which they had jumped to in order to watch the first round and save points.

It could only be said that Miao Zhou’s death was indeed extremely shocking. Even though most people from the first perspective realized that it was entirely their own fault, they were still somewhat frightened.

The originally surging barrage was also discussing the race route that had just been seen in the first lap. As road signs appeared in the live stream room one after another, many people suddenly jumped out.

[Huh? Ahh, what’s going on? Why is it different?]

[Yes, we started from the same starting point. This isn’t the same project as the previous lap!}

[In other words, the content of each lap of the track is actually completely different. In this case, there is no way to refer to the situation of the previous lap.]

[But it seems that the streamer has good luck. It looks like a theoretical test, subject one. Isn’t this much simpler than the previous lap?]

[Huh? Indeed, this seems to be an ordinary track. All you have to do is answer the questions!]

[…I’m dreaming back to staying up at midnight to revise questions. It is the same here where you draw 100 out of 1,000 questions?]

[Think about the abyss just now. Be content with this luck!]

Just as everyone on the barrage was expressing admiration for Chi Ting’s ‘excellent luck’, the corners of the player’s mouth twitched slightly under the helmet.

This was obviously what Yue Ren wanted to remind him about at that time.

Chi Ting had already guessed that a new project would appear at the end of the first round.

After all, based on the designer’s style that he learned so far, it was basically impossible for invalid rules to exist. Until the end of the race that Yue Ren participated in, there hadn’t been too many rules involved in this go-kart project. So the only possibility was that the remaining rules were for the next players to explore.

However, speculation was speculation. Chi Ting might’ve prepared himself mentally for a new project, but he never expected that his luck would be so bad.

In the safe area that had just been triggered, reminder signs came into view one after another.

[Welcome to the crossroads section.]

[Please pay attention to following the traffic rules.]

[Next.]

[At the corresponding fork in the road.]

[Please decide the next route based on the correct answer ~^_^~]

Chi Ting: “……”

The last smiling expression caught Chi Ting’s eye, and he almost wanted to hold his forehead while speeding.

A traffic rules test.

The content he studied at the last minute didn’t seem to be enough.

There was always a feeling that he would definitely get lost on this road.

I always feel that Yue Ren’s way of being and designer n7’s way of being seem to be very similar. Like how they give players hope, and then slowly rip it away. Maybe I’m overthinking it, but I don’t know.
