LSLFBW: Chapter 5

Qi Bai had no doubts about Lang Ze’s answer. His big wolf friend was always so cool. So, Qi Bai happily invited him, “Would you like to go fishing with me?”

Lang Ze had heard about the Man-Eating River. He didn’t think that the river was that dangerous, but he still frowned and said, “Piranhas aren’t delicious.”

Qi Bai hadn’t eaten enough at night. He felt hungry again after taking a few steps out of the cave. Even he was like this, let alone a horned beastman like Lang Ze. Lang Ze should also want food, so he only said that piranhas weren’t delicious. He didn’t actually mean to refuse.

Qi Bai couldn’t give up so easily. “Let’s go catch a few and try it. I have never eaten piranhas before. How can I know if they are delicious if I don’t try it?”

Lang Ze looked around. “This isn’t the direction of the Man-Eating River.”

Qi Bai nodded. “Yes. Before going to catch fish, I need green vines to make some tools.”

Lang Ze didn’t ask what Qi Bai was going to do, but he knew where the green vines were. He would carefully remember all the plants on the road where the hunting team walked.

After hearing this, Lang Ze motioned for Qi Bai to follow him and took Qi Bai back the way they had come. It wasn’t until Lang Ze motioned for Qi Bai to look at some inconspicuous vines that Qi Bai realized he had actually missed a large area of green vines.

Qi Bai rubbed his ears. Seeing these green vines, he knew that Hu Huo’s description was already very vivid. It was just his lack of experience in field observation that caused him to miss them.

Lang Ze asked Qi Bai what type of green vines he needed. Qi Bai estimated the materials needed to weave a large basket with a diameter of around 60 cm and the two of them started to collect it in the darkness in the rain.

Lang Ze’s hands were strong, and he pulled out a lot of vines in a few moves. Qi Bai used his small bone knife to cut the vines from the roots. In a short while, the two of them had sorted out enough green vines for use.

However, this place was a dense forest, and the light was too dim. Lang Ze thought about it and took Qi Bai under a stone shed.

Not only was the light here much brighter, but more importantly, the stone shed could block most of the rain. There were no weeds on the stone platform, which also made it more convenient for Qi Bai to work.

Qi Bai was very satisfied with this place. He felt like he had found a secret base. This feeling filled Qi Bai, who rarely went out alone, with a sense of novelty.

Qi Bai processed the green vines he had collected.

This was his first time making baskets so he didn’t expect to do very well. It was fine as long as it met the requirements for fishing.

Qi Bai first trimmed the branches growing on the vines.

Lang Ze learned from him and helped him deal with the green vines.

Qi Bai was a bit curious at first. How did Lang Ze deal with some bumps on the vines without a bone knife? Then he saw that one of Lang Ze’s fingers had turned into a wolf claw. The nails were very sharp and could easily cut the vines.

Qi Bai was so surprised that he forgot the movements of his hands. Even in Mao Bai’s memories, he had never seen a situation where the fingers could be transformed into animal form while the body was still human.

Lang Ze didn’t notice Qi Bai’s expression, but suddenly, the person in front of him disappeared and was replaced by a snow-white furry ball.

The plush ball seemed startled by himself. His whole body jumped into the air. His limbs and claws were spread wide and he let out a delicate sound.

Lang Ze saw the cute scene in front of him, and his eyes softened uncontrollably.

At this time, the plush ball realized his loss of composure. He quickly turned his whole body away from Lang Ze, saw a big rock in the distance, and rushed over.

By the time he walked out from behind the rock again, Qi Bai had regained his human form.

Qi Bai blushed and lowered his head, pretending that nothing had happened as he continued to cut the green vines.

Qi Bai didn’t look at Lang Ze. Lang Ze thought he had concealed it well, but he didn’t know that the corners of his lips had curved up high.

Qi Bai just wanted to turn his fingers into claws like Lang Ze. He didn’t expect that he wouldn’t be able to control himself and his whole body turned into beast form. He was so focused on his right hand that he was started by the sudden feeling of falling, causing the previous scene.

Neither of them spoke for a while. Time passed in the subtle atmosphere of Qi Bai being shy and Lang Ze smiling.

Qi Bai selected four vines of equal thickness and length from the arranged green vines. Then he turned them in a ‘米’ shape on the ground.

Then he peeled off the skin of the green vines and wrapped them around the ‘米’ shape. The skins themselves had a certain toughness. Now they were even stronger after being soaked in water.

Qi Bai picked up a new green vine, fixed one end in the middle of the ‘米’ shape, and started to circle around the ‘米’ shape, up and down.

In a few minutes, a large ‘米’ with a diameter of around 60 cm was woven.

Lang Ze had been watching Qi Bai’s movements since he tied the vines together. After seeing Qi Bai make such a large round plate, he picked it up curiously and looked at it in his hands. Then he asked in a puzzled manner, “Can such a plate be used to catch fish?”

Qi Bai had only seen others weaving straw baskets in videos. This was his first time trying it. He didn’t expect to succeed in one try. He couldn’t help feeling a bit happy. At this moment, he had completely forgotten about his previous dilemma.

“Of course not.” Qi Bai folded the eight sides of the ‘米’ upwards. The fresh vines didn’t break despite the bending.

He motioned to Lang Ze to hold the bent vines and continued to weave them upwards one after another.

Now Lang Ze could see the prototype of the tool that Qi Bai wanted to make. This lasted until Qi Bai waved another 60-70 cm upwards and tied a large handle on the basket.

Lang Ze was so surprised that he couldn’t speak. He could see the great convenience that this basket would bring.

However, what Lang Ze didn’t know at this time was that Qi Bai would bring him a bigger surprise next.
