LSLFBW: Chapter 123

Snowflakes fell down from the sky.

Lang Ze came close to Qi Bai and asked softly, “We agreed that we would reconcile after I came back. Can we reconcile now?”

Qi Bai hugged the rattan basket tightly in his arms. “I wasn’t angry in the first place.”

Lang Ze’s lips curled up. “Yes.”

Qi Bai suddenly felt a bit embarrassed. “It is snowing. Let’s go back quickly.”

As he said this, he pushed the back of the person in front of him. However, after Qi Bai touched Lang Ze, Lang Ze’s movements became unnatural for a moment.

Qi Bai stopped and asked, “What’s wrong?”

Lang Ze coughed slightly and said, “It’s okay.”

“No.” Qi Bai looked at him suspiciously. “Are you injured?”

Lang Ze avoided Qi Bai’s gaze.

Qi Bai put the rattan basket on his back, grabbed Lang Ze’s arm and walked toward the cave.

He felt that something was wrong this afternoon. If Lang Ze wasn’t injured, why did he put on the animal skin coat immediately after the battle?

Qi Bai led Lang Ze into his cave and pushed him onto the bed. “Take off your clothes and let me see.”

Seeing that Lang Ze refused to move, Qi Bai took action himself and untied the animal skin coat on Lang Ze, revealing his skin.

A bit of moonlight shone through the window behind him.

Qi Bai leaned close to Lang Ze’s chest and squinted. “I can’t see clearly.”

The warm breath hit his chest and Lang Ze’s ears instantly turned red. He frantically tried to push Qi Bai away. “I…”

In the next moment, Qi Bai’s slightly cold fingers touched his chest.

“Hmm.”

Qi Bai quickly withdrew his hand. “Does it hurt?”

Lang Ze leaned back slightly and his throat tightened. “It doesn’t hurt. I’m fine. You…”

Qi Bai raised an eyebrow and pointed at the large bruises. “You call this nothing? Do you know that sometimes internal injuries that can’t be seen from the outside are more serious than external injuries?”

Lang Ze was stunned for a moment. He really didn’t know this.

The beastmen’s understanding of healing was incomplete. They generally believed that only bleeding wounds needed to be treated. No one would pay much attention to a wound like this one on his chest that was just swollen.

Lang Ze just didn’t want Qi Bai to see these ugly traces, so he hurriedly put on the animal skin clothes.

Qi Bai looked at the big dog in front of him who seemed to have done something wrong, and his voice instinctively softened. “Just bear with it for a moment. I will check your bones, okay?”

Lang Ze looked at Qi Bai’s serious expression and responded softly.

The injuries on Lang Ze’s body were caused when he was blocking the wild bull leader. After an after, they had turned into mottled bruises.

Qi Bai’s fingers moved along each rib inch by inch, pressing gently on each rib. Finally, he made sure there were no obvious signs of fractures on all the bones.

However, Qi Bai didn’t dare to take it lightly. The most feared thing about this type of collision injury was the damage to the internal organs. Qi Bai stood up and said, “Wait here for a moment. I will go and ask the priest if there is any medicine that can be used.”

He was afraid that Lang Ze would run around, so Qi Bai turned around and warned before leaving, “Stay still. You can’t do any strenuous exercise in the next few days, got it?”

Seeing Lang Ze nod obediently, Qi Bai ran into the valley with satisfaction.

Once Qi Bai’s footsteps disappeared, Lang Ze stopped holding his breath. He finally relaxed and gasped.

The scar that had been aching dully no longer hurt after Qi Bai’s hand touched it. Lang Ze touched his chest, which was feeling a bit hot, and suddenly felt that being injured wasn’t such a bad thing.

Yang Luo, who had been busy for most of the day, had just fallen asleep when he heard a banging sound on the entrance of his cave.

Yang Luo woke up with a start, thinking that there was another earthquake. He grabbed the animal skin coat beside him and ran to the door in a panic. “E-earthquake.”

Qi Bai grabbed Yang Luo’s arm. “Grandpa Priest, there is no earthquake. Don’t run outside.”

Yang Luo was awakened by the cold wind outside the cave. He saw the peaceful valley and the snow covering his head. Then he stared and asked, “There is no earthquake. Why are you knocking on my door in the middle of the night?”

Qi Bai hurriedly explained Lang Ze’s injury.

Yang Luo was furious. “He has been so active all day. Does he look like he is injured?”

Qi Bai explained, “I’m worried that he might have internal injuries. Grandpa Priest, do you have any medicine to treat internal injuries?”

The air was still for a moment. Then Yang Luo slammed the bamboo door shut in front of Qi Bai.

Along with the sound of the door closing came Yang Luo’s irritable voice, “What internal injuries? I’ve never heard of it! I think I’m the one who is going to have internal injuries!”

Qi Bai looked at the moonlight above his head and touched his nose. He seemed to have disturbed Yang Luo’s rest.

It was a pity that Yang Luo didn’t know what to do. Qi Bai sighed and stood at Yang Luo’s door, thinking for a long time. However, he wasn’t proficient in herbs and medical properties.

However, QI Bai didn’t give up easily. He found several stones buried under the snow in the valley, shook off the dirt on them and brought them back to the cave.

Qi Bai found a clean piece of thin animal skin from the stone cabinet, put the stones inside the skin and said to Lang Ze sitting on the bed, “It seems that there are no suitable herbs.”

He raised the animal skin in his hand. “Let’s use the simplest method and apply a cold compress first.”

Lang Ze sat motionless on the edge of the bamboo bed, listening to Qi Bai muttering while applying the cold compress to him. “Bruises like this must be treated with a cold compress for the first two days. It is absolutely not okay to put such hot barbecue on your chest like today.”

Qi Bai pinched Lang Ze’s stiff arm and said, “Just tell me if I hurt you. Don’t be so nervous.”

Lang Ze replied in a low voice, “It doesn’t hurt.”

Qi Bai faced the purple marks and said through gritted teeth, “What’s wrong with those barbarian bulls today? They look like they don’t want to live anymore.”

In the past, there would be herds of wild bulls around the tribe but they were similar to ordinary wild beasts. As long as the hunting team drove them away, they would leave the tribe. They had never acted like today where they showed no signs of retreating despite being attacked.

Lang Ze nodded. “It isn’t right. Maybe there is something strange in the distance. I will take people to check it out tomorrow.”

Qi Bai removed the animal skin away, patted Lang Ze’s wound and said viciously, “What did I just say? You forgot everything in just a moment.”

Lang Ze was beaten but he wasn’t annoyed at all. Instead, he smiled and said, “Of course, I remember. I will ask Xi Zhou to pull the cart over.”

Xi Zhou had no idea that he was being used as a tool. Early the next morning, he happily transformed into a beast and waited in front of the cart.

Zhu Zhu took out steamed dried meat and sweet potatoes from the pottery jar and said to Qi Bai, “I put all the food in a bamboo basket with a bamboo tube filled with hot water. Be careful when you take it.”

“Yes, I got it.”

Qi Bai squatted in front of the temporary nest of the three ducks. He was giving his three daughters gentle and earnest advice. “Dad will be out for a day or two. You must work hard to lay eggs at home these days. Dad will bring you something useful.”

Zhu Zhu heard Qi Bai’s mutters and shook her head. She had never seen a beastman who wanted to be the father of a wild beast. “Don’t worry. If they lay eggs, I will help you collect them. I guarantee that none of them will break.”

Qi Bai showed his white teeth and cupped his hands together. “Thank you very much.”

As Qi Bai went out carrying the bamboo basket, Hou Yan and Yang Luo had already organized the members of the two newly joined tribes into the hunting team and gathering team. Everyone was ready to go out to work.

Lang Ze reached out and pulled Qi Bai onto the cart. Xi Zhou followed the team in front of him and slowly pulled the cart out of the tribe’s wall until they reached the foot of the mountain. There, they separated from the main force.

They went all the way to the plain where the battle took place yesterday, looking for traces of the barbarian bulls.

Fortunately, the snow wasn’t too thick now. The hoof prints left by the wild bulls were obvious enough, so the direction along the way was easy to identify.

The group traveled all day and night. At dawn the next day, they finally saw a scene that shocked them.

The tall, straight mountain seemed to be cut in half and most of it had collapsed. Two or three meter high rocks fell all over the valley, blocking the group’s progress.

Yet everyone knew that they didn’t need to continue.

It was because right under these huge rocks, the remains of nearly 100 barbarian bulls was eye-catching.

This was just what they could see. There might be more corpses under the rocks.

Niu Shuo looked at the scene in front of him and was so shocked that he couldn’t utter a word.

Lang Ze walked to the side of a relatively intact bull and saw a clear skeleton.

There was no need to worry about the cause of death of these bulls.

They were resting here when the earthquake occurred or they escaped here. The mountain collapsed and crushed most of the bulls under the boulders.

The dozens on the outermost edge might not have died at the beginning, but they were either trapped under the rocks and unable to break free, or their limbs were broken and they couldn’t move forward. They could only wail on the spot.

Lang Ze looked at the messy traces left by the charge of the bulls. It could be imagined that they had struggled for seven or eight days before eventually starving to death here.

Perhaps it was precisely due to the destruction of the entire tribe that the remaining bulls attacked the beastmen’s territory like crazy.

Lang Ze looked at the mountains in front of him and said, “We don’t need to go any further.”

Qi Bai was shocked. He knew that some animals on Earth would commit collective suicide, but he never thought the herd of bulls they encountered would commit such tragic behavior.

He felt sympathy for the plight of this group of wild bulls, but Qi Bai still checked the conditions of the outer bulls as soon as possible.

Due to the sudden change in weather after the earthquake, the meat of the wild bulls on the outermost edge, who had only died for a day or two, wasn’t completely frozen. The meat was fresh enough.

Xi, Zhu, Hu and Qiao were all happy. “There is so much meat. I want to move it back to the tribe!”

That being said, their team had come to investigate the situation with only ten people and a cart. They could only bring back two bulls at most with their strength. The rest still had to be transported by a larger group.

Hu Qiao volunteered and patted his chest. “Captain, let me stay here to guard our prey!”

Lang Ze refused. “No.”

Hu Qiao wasn’t convinced. “I can definitely protect the prey!”

Qi Bai shook his head. “The smell of blood here is too strong. It is too dangerous to stay here.”

The stomachs of several bulls not far away had been emptied. It was obvious that this natural buffet restaurant had been visited by many wild beasts. There was so much food here. If the small number of beastmen wanted to monopolize it, they would definitely pay a terrible price.

Seeing that Hu Qiao still wasn’t convinced, Lang Ze turned his gaze to him. Hu Qiao shrank back timidly, not daring to continue arguing.

Several people worked together to lift two bulls onto the cart. The joints between the bone wheels and the wooden boards made a creaking sound, indicating that the cart had reached its maximum weight.

Just as everyone was preparing to return, Qi Bai stopped when he looked at the cross-section of the mountain.

Lang Ze stepped forward. “What’s wrong?”

Qi Bai pondered for a moment before saying, “I’ll pack a basket of these tones and take them back to study.”
