LSLFBW: Chapter 101 Part 2

Putting aside what the Linen Tribe did, Lang Ze thought that the linen was still pretty. “If you like, we can exchange more and make clothes. Such clothes should be more comfortable than animal skins in summer.”

Qi Bai was the only one in the entire Black Mountain Tribe who wore clothes no matter how hot the weather was. Lang Ze felt sorry every time he saw Qi Bai sweating.

“This can’t really be considered cloth.” Qi Bai pointed to the pattern on it. “In my place, there was a type of weaving and the real cloth is much more delicate than this. Once we return to the tribe, we can try to make it ourselves. We won’t buy such expensive ones.”

As the two of them were talking, Qi Bai’s stomach growled without warning.

Qi Bai touched his belly with some grievance.

The last full meal he had was yesterday morning. Since last night, he had only been eating some sweet potatoes and taro.

Qi Bai also truly felt that unique physique of the beastmen. It was really difficult to stay full without eating meat. Even though he had already eaten breakfast this morning, he soon felt hungry due to not eating meat.

Lang Ze turned his gaze to the stall in the middle of the square.

Unlike the large tribe living in the tightly guarded tents surrounding the periphery, the beastmen in these small stalls in the middle were much more casual.

There were no clear boundaries between tribes, so it looked a bit confusing.

The weather was now hot. Some not-so-rich tribes hadn’t set up tents at all. Some people were just lying on the ground without even a piece of animal skin to cover themselves.

The places where they roasted fire and cooked were also very random. Beastmen from different tribes might gather around one fire.

Still, there was one advantage to such a messy place. It was that the things in front of these stalls were much richer in variety.

There were not only fresh prey and animal skins but also many rare stones and feathers. Many tribes also brought some strange fruits and plants, many of which weren’t found near the Black Mountain Tribe.

Lang Ze said, “Let’s go find something to eat first.”

Finding more plants was the original purpose of Qi Bai’s trip, not to mention that he was really hungry now. It would be nice to eat something by the way.

Just as the two of them were about to turn to a stall, two beastmen dragged a wild boar from the corner of the street with great effort and threw the wild boar in front of a low tent.

Qi Bai looked at the wild boar that happened to be placed next to the stall in front of the tent and asked, “Is this prey what you want to exchange?”

One of them turned around and saw Qi Bai’s focused eyes. Then he turned back to look at the prey on the ground, pointed, and said, “Are you asking about this?”

Qi Bai nodded. “Yes, I can give you a small bag of salt.”

The man was stunned for a moment. Then he smiled and shook his head. “You can’t regret it.”

“My people still need food. I certainly won’t regret it.”

“You guys send this prey to my stall.” Qi Bai described the location of the Black Mountain Tribe. Then he pointed at his hair. “Just say that I asked you to send it there, and they will exchange enough salt for you.”

The man pondered on it for a moment before suddenly asking, “You said you needed food. If we hunt other prey, will you still exchange it?”

Qi Bai nodded.

“Even if there are a lot of prey?”

Qi Bai laughed proudly before raising his voice a bit. “Of course, it is as much as you can hunt. As long as it is fresh and complete prey, our Black Mountain Tribe will exchange it for salt.”

The man was efficient. He hummed in agreement and immediately called people over. It seemed that he was about to deliver goods to the stall of the Black Mountain Tribe.

Qi Bai couldn’t eat meat right now, but the food problem of the tribe members still needed to be solved.

After Qi Bai heard Ming’s warning, he decided that it was better for the tribe members not to go hunting as much during the trading days.

After all, when transforming into beast form and human form again, the slave marks on everyone’s bodies might be discovered without the cover of animal skin clothes.

Since there were tribes hunting prey at the trading day, there was no need for the Black Mountain Tribe members to take risks now.

Qi Bai and Lang Ze ignored the slightly agitated crowd around them and continued walking down the small street as planned.

Qi Bai really enjoyed the journey. Every time he came across fruits and plants he had never seen before, he would try a few of them. Soon, many strange foods appeared in the animal skin bag in front of Lang Ze.

Qi Bai took a bite of the green fruit in his hand and his whole face wrinkled up due to sourness.

The old beastman sitting behind the stall waved her hands quickly. “Don’t spit it out, don’t spit it out. This is sweet fruit, very sweet.”

Qi Bai, who had already put his hand to his mouth, was forced to bite the bullet and chew a few more times.

Qi Bai didn’t expect that after swallowing the fruit, he actually tasted sweetness in his mouth. He tasted it carefully and it seemed to have a hint of a plum flavor.

Qi Bai looked at the fruit in his hand in amazement. “Interesting.”

He pointed to the sweet fruits in the stone basin and said, “Pack them all up for me.”

The elderly stall owner immediately folded her hands in a blessing gesture. Then she deftly stuffed all the sweet fruits into the animal skin bag on Lang Ze, and received a handful of salt from Lang Ze.

A beastman nearby was extremely envious when he saw that all the sweet fruits that the old woman had been putting on display for a few days were exchanged at once.

The sweet fruits here hadn’t finished being packed, so he hurried forward to introduce his goods to Qi Bai. “Look, these are beans from our tribe.”

“Forget it, Yan, Your beans are so hard and unpalatable that no one will trade with you.” A middle-aged beastman sneered before looking at Qi Bai in a flattering manner. “Take a look at the feathers we have here. Such beautiful feathers are just right for you to wear.”

Yan obviously wasn’t as eloquent as the middle-aged beastman, so he could only say stiffly, “These beans can be stored for a long time. They won’t go bad even in winter.”

Qi Bai only heard the word ‘beans’ from the mouth of the man named Yan, and the non-existent radar about his head turned twice.

He turned around calmly and said with a hint of disdain, “Show it to me.”

Yan tried hard to grin. The thin cuts on his face that had been cracked and healed again were squeezed hard. He quickly opened an animal skin bag, revealing the hairy ears of wheat inside.

Qi Bai’s breathing stopped for a moment, and he looked up at Lang Ze.

Lang Ze naturally understood what Qi Bai meant.

After all, when they went out to look for salt this spring, Qi Bai told him that he wanted such long eared plants.

Lang Ze hadn’t expected that before he could help Qi Bai find it, this thing would be accidentally sent to them by the beastman in front of them.

Yan imitated the old man selling sweet fruits. He took out an ear of wheat from the animal skin bag and handed it to Qi Bai.

He knew that his ear of wheat wasn’t delicious. He watched with trepidation as Qi Bai twisted open the ear of wheat and put the kernels into his mouth, chewing them slowly.

The ear of wheat was very long, and the grains inside had no taste when eaten.

Qi Bai had never eaten raw wheat before. What he usually saw were processed flour or fried wheat tea.

But it was almost the same. If he had to look for it himself, he didn’t know when he would find it.

Qi Bai asked, “Does this bean have a name?”

Yan nodded. “This bean is called Wheat, which is also the name of our tribe. In the cold winter, we don’t starve to death by relying on this. It is a really good thing.”

Qi Bai knew that this was a really good thing. “Then exchange some. Exchange all the wheat you have remaining for me.”

“Wait.” A voice sounded, and a bone whip was thrown at the stall of the Wheat Tribe. “I want this thing.”

Yan didn’t have time to be surprised and staggered backward in fright. Then he fell silent when he saw the bone whip in front of him.

Qi Bai frowned and looked at the young beastman in front of him, who was wearing a linen robe and had a flamboyant expression on his face. “I saw this first. It should belong to me.”

“It isn’t impossible to give it to you.” The young beastman laughed and turned the bone whip in his hand to point behind Qi Bai. “I will take this slave of yours in exchange.”
